The hotel has been the center of major State activities to host national and international events from the very beginning. It earned the recognition as world class venue from  business and leisure travellers to international meetings, conferences and exhibitions.

The hotel has been the venue for many economic, social and cultural events. It proudly hosted a number of international conferences and summits. It was the official Hotel of the D-8 Summit of 1999 and all the three South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Summits held in Bangladesh. All the Visiting Heads of States/Governments were accommodated in this hotel during the Summits. In 2004, Queen Sophia of Spain was the guest of the hotel, while she visited Bangladesh on a highprofile visit to inaugurate the Micro credit Summit. The hotel was also the official venue for the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conferenceand former BIMST-EC (now BIMSTEC - Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation).The hotel also accommodated the participants of the ICC knockout World Cup Cricket in 1998. Currently the Hotel is the official Hospitality Partner of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
